The Residential Area of Jan Sofat

The residential area of Jan Sofat is also known as 'Jan Zoutvat' and is located southeast of Curaçao. The residential area is surrounded by the Spanish Water. In the past, the Spanish world explorers came ashore here for the first time because of the good landing places and the quiet inland water. Nowadays Jan Sofat is one of the more luxurious residential areas of Curaçao with 24-hour security. The neighborhood is quiet and also has a spacious appearance. Almost all villas have a view over the Spanish Water. You will certainly have a wonderful stay here.

Area

If you stay in Jan Sofat, you can reach the beach and the beach clubs of Jan Thiel in about 5 minutes, but also the Spanish Water. Would you like a day trip to Mambo Beach? Then you are there within 15 minutes by car. You don't have to go far for groceries or a freshly baked Dutch sandwich. The Vreugdenhil supermarket and other small shops are also in the vicinity of Jan Sofat. Bakery 'de Zon' on the way to the Caracasbaaiweg sells fresh bread and also the Dutch morning paper.

Country Houses

On Curaçao, there are many country houses that you can visit during your vacation. For example, the country house Brakkeput Mei Mei, located near Jan Sofat, is very nice to visit. There used to be a plantation here. On the plantation (around the 18th century) cattle were kept and vegetables were grown and these were sold to the residents who moored the boats in the harbor. Around 1929, the new residents no longer lived on the earnings, and the country house was transferred to the monument care foundation, which gave it to an operator again. Now the country house is used as a restaurant and party center.

Golf

The area around Jan Sofat is perfect for playing golf. For example, the Santa Barbara golf resort is about 15 minutes by car from Jan Sofat. The Old Quarry Golf Course (designed by Peter Dye) is located directly on the sea and has no less than 18 holes (72 Par). It is definitely worth a visit to this golf course if you enjoy playing golf and are staying in the vicinity of the residential area of Jan Sofat
